Jones Refuses to Support Any Trump Supreme Court Nominee

Sen. Doug Jones (D-Mountain Brook) Friday announced that he would not support any Supreme Court nominee named by President Donald Trump ahead of the election. "I will not support the confirmation of any Supreme Court justice nominee, regardless of who it might be. I will not support that nominee before the outcome of the November 3 election has been determined," said Jones during a Facebook live meeting. "We should not force the country into a brutal and divisive partisan fight to confirm a Supreme Court justice ... while Americans are already voting to choose their next president."

Alabama Republican Party Chairman Terry Lathan slammed Jones's position as "disgraceful." She said Jones "continues to ignore the wishes of the majority of his constituents, and falls in line with his liberal party bosses, Hollywood supporters, and New York fundraisers."

Jones is widely considered the most vulnerable Senate incumbent up for reelection this year. An independent poll released this week showed Jones trailing Republican challenger Tommy Tuberville by 18 points.
