President Donald Trump and Republican Senate candidate Tommy Tuberville held double digit leads in their respective races in Alabama, according to a poll released Monday. The poll, taken by Auburn University at Montgomery, showed President leading Democrat Joe Biden by 20 points, 57-37 percent. Tuberville led Sen. Doug Jones (D-Mountain Brook) by 12 points, 54-42 percent. Analysts say Jones is paying a political price in heavily Republican Alabama for lining up with national Democrats like Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.) on key issues. "On many critical votes such as whether to convict President Trump in his impeachment trial, Jones has been a reliable Democratic ally, which likely isn’t helping his reelection efforts," said David Hughes, an assistant professor of political science and the poll director. The poll of 1,072 registered voters was taken between Sept. 30 and Oct. 3. It has a margin of error of plus or minus four percentage points.
