Five Vestavia Hills Poll Workers Test Positive for COVID-19, Officials Say

New information in the COVID-19 outbreak at a Vestavia Hills polling place on Election Day. The county health department says five poll workers at the Horizon Church precinct have tested positive. The precinct was overcrowded and understaffed, with lines wrapping around the building. It took many people over three hours to vote. 3700 voters are assigned to the precinct, which is far too small to accommodate so many people, Secretary of State John Merrill said. Probate judge Jim Naftel says he's looking into splitting up the precinct, to avoid another problem in the 2022 election. County health officials have urged all voters at that location to be on the lookout for coronavirus symptoms, and get tested, if they appear.
