Shelby County Tornado Was EF-3

The National Weather Service says damage in the Eagle Point subdivision of Shelby County on Thursday was caused by an EF-3 tornado, with top winds of 140 mph. More than 30 homes in the subdivision were damaged, with most of those properties considered total losses. Storm survey teams determined that the tornado's path in the county stretched 34 miles, from near Helena to near Vandiver. The tornado caused extensive property damage in Eagle Point, Pelham, Greystone, Pelham, Helena, Indian Springs and other areas. A second tornado, in the southern portion of the county, was rated an EF-1. Seven people were treated for injuries across the county, the sheriff's office said. In Jefferson County, damage in the South Roebuck area appeared to be from an EF-1 tornado, the weather service said.
