Critical race theory was banned in Alabama, by a vote of the state school board Thursday. The Republican-led panel voted 7-2 to prohibit the teaching of concepts that value one race over another. State school superintendent Dr. Eric Mackey noted responded to opponents of the ban, who argued it was unnecessary because CRT is not currently a part of the curriculum. "I think board members wanted to make a firm statement that, in the future, they don't plan to approve courses of study that would be in conflict with this." As the board voted, a CRT supporter shouted. Gov. Kay Ivey ignored the outburst, declaring: "The vote carries."
