Shelby to Oppose Jackson

Sen. Richard Shelby on Friday announced how he'll vote on the nomination of Judge Kenatji Brown Jackson to the Supreme Court. Shelby says he and Jackson "had a candid discussion" in which Shelby questioned the federal appeals court judge about her judicial philosophy, position on court-packing, and prior sentencing record. "Her answers did not sufficiently alleviate my concerns. As such, I am unable to support her nomination to the Supreme Court," Shelby said. To date, just one Republican senator, Maine's Susan Collins, has indicated support for Jackson. Sen. Tommy Tuberville has not yet said how he'll vote.
