Authorities have identified the suspect in the Vestavia Hills church shooting. Robert Findlay Smith, 70, was charged with capital murder Friday, in connection with the shooting that killed three people at St. Stephens Episcopal Church. The victims were identified as 84-year old Jane Pounds of Hoover, 84-year old Walter "Bart" Rainey of Irondale and 75-year old Sarah Yeager of Pelham. Smith was being held without bond. Police executed search warrants Friday afternoon at Smith's home in the 4100 block of Sicard Hollow Rd. A motive for the attack, which occurred at a Thursday potluck supper, remained unclear.
