Guilty Verdict in Kamille "Cupcake" McKinney Case

A federal jury in Birmingham Friday convicted a man in connection with the 2019 abduction and murder of 3-year old Kamille "Cupcake" McKinney. Jurors deliberated about an hour, before finding Patrick Stallworth guilty of kidnapping and conspiracy. Assistant U.S. Attorney Lloyd Peeples, following the verdict, noted that Cupcake would be 6 years old and attending the first grade, had she lived. "She's gone. The defendant took her. And the jury found that the defendant's actions resulted in her death," Peeples said. Defense attorney Derrick Collins said it was an uphill case, in part because of credibility problems. "Whenever a defendant lies about a critical part of the case, this is usually the result," Collins said. The convictions carry a mandatory sentence of life in prison without parole. Stallworth still faces a state murder trial. His girlfriend is scheduled for trial in federal court next month.
