Britt: Mexico Ends Occupation of Vulcan Materials Facility

Sens. Tommy Tuberville and Katie Britt on Monday announced the Mexican government agreed to end its military occupation of private property owned by a Birmingham company. Mexican military and police forces earlier this month rolled into a Vulcan Materials port facility on the Yucatan Peninsula, following a dispute with the company. Britt says there was "never a legitimate reason" for the action, which she called an "unlawful takeover." Britt and other members of Alabama's congressional delegation on Monday met with Mexico's ambassador to push for an end to the seizure. Britt says she told the ambassador to relay a message to his country's president, that "aggression towards American interests will not be tolerated." Tuberville's office said he will continue to advocate for the Vulcan facility in Mexico to reopen as the company continues to go through the arbitration process.
