The Justice Department has filed federal charges in the U.S. District Court in Kansas City, Missouri, against a woman whose alleged in-flight outburst caused the pilot to divert to another city.

Prosecutors said that Chloe Dasilva, 32, was involved in a confrontation with a male flight attendant during a non-stop Alaska Airlines flight from San Francisco to Chicago. Dasilva cursed him out and threatened to kill him.

The altercation became heated, causing another passenger and her infant daughter to move to another seat for their own safety.

With the help of two passengers, the flight crew used zip ties to restrain Dasilva. The pilot felt that Dasilva was a safety risk and decided to divert the flight to Kansas City.

She was taken into custody once the plane landed and has been charged with one count of interfering with flight crew members and attendants.

Prosecutors asked a judge to keep Dasilva in federal custody until a detention hearing has been scheduled.
