Joran van der Sloot, suspected but never tried in connection with the 2005 disappearance of Mountain Brook teen Natalee Holloway, will be extradited to Birmingham, Holloway's mother said Thursday. According to Beth Holloway, Peruvian officials agreed to extradite van der Sloot to face charges stemming from an alleged scam to extort $250,000 in exchange for information on Natalee Holloway's whereabouts. Van der Sloot has been in prison since 2010, after he was convicted of murdering Stephanie Flores Ramirez in Peru. Holloway was last seen with van der Sloot, whom she met during a high school trip to Aruba. Reacting to the extradition, Beth Holloway said: "It has been a very long and painful journey, but the persistence of many is going to pay off. Together, we are finally getting justice for Natalee."
