Anti-Squatter Bill Advances in Montgomery

There are rising concerns about squatters, following reports from around the country about people illegally taking over homes. The Alabama House is moving a bill that speeds up the process to get a squatter evicted. Owners can get the trespasser off the premises within 24 hours by providing a sworn affidavit to law enforcement. There are additional penalties for property damage and false lease documents. The Judiciary Committee approved the bill, sending it to the full House. The sponsor is Rep. Craig Lipscomb (R-Gadsden).
