A tragic accident occurred on Wednesday (June 4) at Campbell Hall, a private school in Studio City, California, resulting in the death of a 15-year-old student. The incident happened around 3 p.m. as school was letting out for the day. According to the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD), the teenager was fatally pinned between two SUVs in the school's parking lot.
The driver of a green Rivian SUV, who was picking up her younger sister, reportedly rear-ended another SUV just as the teen was walking between the vehicles. The impact pinned the boy, causing severe injuries. Paramedics transported the gravely injured teen and his uninjured father to a local hospital, where the boy later died from his injuries. Five others, including two teens and three adults, sustained non-life-threatening injuries due to the chain-reaction crash.
LAPD spokesperson David Cuellar confirmed that the incident was an accident, and no citations will be issued. The driver of the Rivian SUV is cooperating with the investigation, and authorities have ruled out any criminal intent.
In response to the tragedy, Campbell Hall canceled classes and finals for Thursday (June 5). The school is offering counseling services to students, parents, and staff to help them cope with the loss.
The Mayor's Crisis Response Team was present at the scene to provide emotional support to those affected. Authorities continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the accident.
