Alabama death row inmate Anthony Boyd was executed Thursday evening. Boyd, 54, was given nitrogen gas at Holman prison near Atmore. The execution was carried out after the U.S. Supreme Court, in a 6-3 ruling, denied his request for a stay of execution. Boyd was sent to death row for the 1993 murder of a man in Talladega County. Boyd maintained his innocence, and unsuccessfully sought to present his case directly to Gov. Kay Ivey. After the execution, Alabama Attorney General Steve Marshall issued a statement saying: "A jury unanimously convicted Anthony Boyd in March 1995 for the horrific murder of Gregory Huguley, who was burned alive over a $200 debt. For more than 30 years, Boyd sought to delay justice through endless litigation, yet he never once presented evidence that the jury was wrong."
