Taylor Hicks backs Tommy Tuberville for governor

Birmingham native and 'American Idol' winner Taylor Hicks has endorsed Republican Senator Tommy Tuberville for Alabama governor in 2026. Hicks, who gained fame after winning the fifth season of 'American Idol' in 2006, made his political debut by supporting Tuberville on "Alabama’s Morning News with JT" on Tuesday (August 19).

Hicks praised Tuberville's background as an educator, noting his experience as a coach at Auburn University. "I believe Senator Tuberville is the best candidate for governor for Alabama, and I’m putting my full endorsement behind him," Hicks said, emphasizing Tuberville's focus on improving education in Alabama. Hicks highlighted the importance of enhancing education, particularly in rural areas like the Wiregrass region, and expressed optimism about Tuberville's potential impact on the state's educational system.

In addition to education, Hicks mentioned that Tuberville's leadership could benefit Alabama's farmers and strengthen the state's defense economy. Hicks expressed confidence in Tuberville's ability to lead Alabama, describing him as a "good guy" who is well-suited for the governor's role.

Tuberville's campaign for governor has already attracted endorsements from influential state organizations. With potential candidates like State Attorney General Steve Marshall opting to run for Senate and Lt. Gov. Will Ainsworth considering a move to the private sector, Tuberville currently faces limited opposition in his gubernatorial bid.
